‘Time Travel Earthquake,’ Starring Ellen DeGeneres and Tom Hanks

Whenever I go to Starbucks I
notice two things. One, they spell my name with three L’s,
which is ridiculous.>>[LAUGH]
>>And two, here in LA every Starbucks is filled with
young screenwriters working on scripts. And I wanna get somebody
discovered right now. So I sent Andy Zenor to the local
Starbucks to find me some talent. Andy, are you there? Hi, Andy.
>>Hi, Ellen.>>Hi, did you meet anybody in there
that’s working on a screenplay?>>Yep, we got a girl inside. We’re going in right now.>>What’s her name?>>Her name is Hillary.>>Okay, she’s in there working?>>They’re all screenwriters here,
Ellen, all of them.>>Everybody.
>>The person we’re looking for is down here, yep.>>All right.
>>See the aprons? Don’t be fooled,
they’re still screenwriters.>>[LAUGH]
>>Hi, Hillary. Hillary, here we go, guess what? Guess who you’re talking to?>>Who?>>Hi, I’m Ellen. Hi, Hillary.>>My God.
>>[LAUGH]>>You’re working on a screenplay?>>[SOUND] Yeah.>>Yeah.
>>[LAUGH]>>She’s working on it right now.>>Yes!
>>All right, and you wanna get discovered probably,
right?>>Yes! [LAUGH]
>>All right, describe your screenplay
just in three words. I’m very, very busy today.>>[LAUGH]
>>But tell me in three words, what’s it about? What is it?>>Okay, three words? Well, I can use the title,
the working title.>>Okay.>>Cuz it is called
Time Travel Earthquake.>>Okay, let’s keep looking for
someone else.>>[LAUGH]
>>No, no, no that’s good. I think that sounds intriguing. All right, Andy is gonna bring you here
to the show and an Oscar host, me, and an Oscar winner, is gonna breathe life
into a scene from your screenplay. Unless you’ve got something better to do,
we’re gonna come over here, right?>>Okay.
>>You ready to go?>>[LAUGH]
>>Let’s go.>>All right.
>>We’re coming.>>Hurry up, no pressure, but hurry up. This could be your big break. We’ll be right back.>>[APPLAUSE]
>>All right, we have Hillary from Starbucks. Where are you, Hillary? Come on out. There you are.>>[APPLAUSE]
>>Hey, how are you? Nice to meet you.>>Hey, how are you? Hi!>>Hi, how are you? Look at that, they are sisters.>>Are you all, which one is Hillary?>>I’m Hillary.>>I recognize her from
earlier in the show.>>I’m Katie Rose, I’m her twin.>>You’re her twin, and?>>I’m Maggie, I’m the little sister.>>Okay.>>Are you jealous of her success?>>[CROSSTALK]
>>[LAUGH]>>All right. Okay.>>Are they extras or something? Okay, so Hillary you sit in the director’s
chair, cuz you have to get used to that. And you come back here with us,
you’re gonna be extras and we’ll be back in just a minute.>>Okay.
>>All right.>>All right, we’ll go this way everybody.>>All right.>>[APPLAUSE]
>>And now, Ellen DeGeneres and
Tom Hanks in Time Travel Earthquake. [INAUDIBLE]
>>’Morning Robinson, you haven’t been here all night, have you?>>I think I found something, chief.>>Found what?>>[COUGH]
>>Well, the Johnson case.>>The Timothy Johnson case? Yeah.
>>Timothy Johnson.>>We closed on that case last year.>>Only because our leads led us nowhere. 25 people within a mile of the Palace
of Fine Arts reported that they felt an earthquake at 12:01 AM on the night
that Timothy Johnson disappeared.>>I remember, so?>>Well,
what happened during that earthquake?>>[SOUND]
>>Why did so few people->>Hold on. We’re busy.>>[LAUGH]
>>And where was Timothy? And where was Timothy?>>I heard you,
this is San Francisco for Pete’s sake. People are either feeling earthquakes or they’re feeling earthquakes
every thirty seconds. The Richter scale shows nothing. [LAUGH]
>>Exactly!>>[LAUGH]
>>You need a nap, son! [SOUND]
>>[LAUGH]>>I just added that. Is that okay, the slap? Okay, go ahead.>>[LAUGH]
>>It just, it felt like, go ahead.>>[LAUGH]
>>He disappeared. Is that me or you?>>I’m working with Brad Pitt.>>Hold on. It’s you. He disappeared.
>>He disappeared, on February 20th. February 20th, 2015.>>Why do you have to repeat it so
many times? I hear you. Gimme new information or stop boring me.>>That’s 100 years to
the day that it opened.>>The day what opened?>>The San Francisco World’s Fair, the
fair that open on February 20th [SOUND]>>[LAUGH]>>1915.>>You’re not making,
you’re not making sense. You’re not making sense.>>[LAUGH]
>>Chief, you don’t understand, he disappeared. There’s no evidence of foul play. No body was ever found, no nothing. He vanished, close to or
probably at midnight. One of the most historic places in San
Francisco, 100 years to the day that it opened during one of the biggest events
ever hosted in the city of San Francisco! And there happened to be a mysterious
earthquake right around that time that Timothy Johnson very
mysteriously disappeared.>>Enough!>>How am I doing?>>You’re doing great, [LAUGH] right on.>>It feels good.>>It’s good. [LAUGH]
>>Enough!>>[LAUGH]
>>Is that, that’s too big, right?>>It’s good, maybe a little more.>>Enough.
What are you getting at?>>What if Timothy Johnson
traveled through time?>>[NOISE]
>>[LAUGH]>>Get some sleep, son.>>[LAUGH]>>[APPLAUSE]
