Students who gravitate to the arts, whether it’s visual art, or sculpture, or music, or composing or performing, there have been gifts that have been placed on their heart. And these are God-given gifts and talents. We can express ourselves through music and through songwriting; through performing in different areas. And so it’s just really a neat experience to be able to show who we are as individuals, but also show how the School of Music and College of Fine Arts have influenced our choices. There are musical performances that are fantastic. Sometimes, we’ll even integrate that with our art shows. There are plays; and so lots of opportunities just on campus. I came here for choir camp in high school. And I just fell in love with the atmosphere, and the campus, and how the directors interacted with the students. I could tell it was a really close-bonded campus. And I really liked the idea that it was like it’s own little home, and it made me feel like I was at home. Students who love the arts are the ones that have a burning desire to express themselves. To be creative, to imagine who they could be and what that means. It’s expressing the imagination. We get to know the students. What their strengths and weaknesses are. What their interests are and I think that allows us to be maneuverable and agile in helping them find their own voice, their own direction and their own career path. What we do in our life and what we encourage our students to always be aware of is that what we’re doing is glorifying God And these gifts, this desire, this passion was given to us by our Creator. And we have a responsibility and an honor to use that. We’re designing students who can go on and be in the arts. It’s the discipline of the arts that helps them be successful in other areas as well. Spiritually, the closer they get to God, the more they’re going to express their art. We want to show our students where good boundaries are, And how they can live comfortably inside their skin with strong morals, strong beliefs, strong values as a Christian and also express themselves creatively.
